Printful vs Printify: why we chose Printful

The fundamental difference

Printful is the printer. They own and operate their production facilities in Charlotte, Riga, Barcelona, Melbourne, and more. When you submit an order to Printful, Printful prints it.

Printify is a network. They aggregate dozens of third-party print providers and route orders to whichever one is cheapest or closest. Quality varies by provider. You can't always know who's printing your item.

What this means for quality

With Printful, quality is consistent because process and equipment are controlled. Printful uses direct-to-garment (DTG), embroidery, and sublimation equipment they've invested in maintaining. A hoodie from Printful in Charlotte looks the same as one from Printful in Riga.

With Printify, an order routed to one print provider may look different from an identical order routed to another. For corporate swag where consistency matters — every new hire kit should look the same — this is a real problem.

API access and pricing

Printful includes API access on all plans. Printify restricts API access to Enterprise plans, which are expensive and not self-serve.

This was a non-negotiable for building Swagodin. We need programmatic access to order creation, file management, shipping estimation, and webhook callbacks. Printful delivers all of this on standard pricing.

Volume discounts

Printful offers production cost discounts based on order volume. Since Swagodin runs a single Printful account across all clients, the combined volume of every customer on the platform contributes to discount tiers that would be unavailable to any single company operating alone.

Printify's pricing model is inherently more opaque because costs depend on which provider handles each order.
